New arrivals mid-year, what actually helped
A colleague moved his family here in February, two boys, the older one fourteen. Wrong month for it. The school put him in a class where everybody had known each other since they were seven, and nobody thought to say this to the parents beforehand.
What worked was not from the school at all. Another parent took the boy to a basketball court on a Saturday and that was the whole solution, three weeks later he had people to sit with.
The part I keep thinking about is the flat. They bought the first thing they saw because the school year was already running, and it turned out to be forty minutes away on two buses. Most of what we opened online had sold long ago and nobody had taken it down. The only list that matched what was actually still for sale was https://yektahomes.com/ and even with that they were choosing in a hurry. They are looking again now, closer to the school, and the younger boy has taken the whole thing badly.
Does anyone here plan the school first and the flat after, or is it always the other way round?
